Animations Brief

Tetris Stop Motion Planning:

What is manageable?

As of my initial thoughts, I will be creating a stop motion abstract by using sticky notes. This will be manageable as all I'll be needing is sticky notes with multiple other coloured sticky notes to represent each Tetris block. Reason why I've decided to go with stop motion is because, this is where I'm most confident with and I have proven this by creating two stop motions my self such as a short Lego character fixing his car and a scrunched up paper un wrapping when it got to the centre of the shot and wrapping back up again and leaving the shot. Overall I'm not a keen artist when it comes to drawing so moving objects around is where I'll be best at.

Initial ideas:

My initial ideas are that I want it to base it on around gaming in which it will represent the type of person I am and to what I enjoy doing most in my free time which is playing games. In order for this to work I'll have to do this as a stop motion as this is where I am most comfortable with and my planning will go as planned. My overall initial idea will be based on a game however, it will be done by using sticky notes to illustrate each movement of the "object" in stop motion. I'll make sure to add squares in the background to help me carefully place the sticky notes in order to look neat.

An example that I've found which gives me ideas on how I can use sticky notes into my own stop motion which is a game called pack man. My game of choice that I'll be creating will be Tetris whilst Pac Man interferes. Here is the example:

This example has attracted my attention as the music and sound effects playing in the background gives me ideas on borrowing sound effects online for each Tetris movements and placements as well as background music.

What will "Success" look like to you?

In order for my work to be successful it will have to follow my planning  as well as creating some test footage and seeing what can I improve upon and what doesn't need to be improved on. Another way success would look like is by not having to draw as my drawing skills are not great which is why stop motion is the perfect way in doing this project and I've proven my self twice that I'm more than capable of creating stop motions myself. Overall this is where I enjoy most when creating animations as I will be very proud of the overall result if the whole finished product creates an illusion.

Research/pre-production work you’ve done so far:

As of the work I've done with animation, I have created a numerous amount of tiny projects by creating animations in Animate, Using a stop motion software to create a stop motion animation, lip sync animation in Animate and also using Photoshop to create a gif animation. All of this has given me a brief idea on what I can do in each of these choices for animation. So I've went with stop motion.

In order for me to create a stop motion at home I'll need to use an app on my phone to capture each specific movements for my stop motion. An app that I'll be using is called Sop Motion Studio which is also free in the app store.

Music choice:

When it comes to music, it is vital you choose the correct theme of music that will fit in within your animation as well as finding a catchy beat if possible. As of my type of theme it will be a classic Tetris theme music but more remixed. This music will allow me to make the stop motion more entertaining when watching it.

Sound Effects:

Sound effects is also something that is a must in my stop motion project as the objects themselves wont be making sound itself so I'll have to implement it my self by adding the sounds for specific moments such as, each time the shape moves it will create a sound effect. As for my chosen sound effects is a video of all sorts of sound effects from Tetris which will allow me

Pac Man abstract:

In order for my stop motion to have something that will ruin the game or interfere, I've decided to merge another game with Tetris which is Pac Man. These two games are a classic and can work very well when implemented into my stop motion by just having Pac Man crashing through the wall of the Tetris game, messing the game up and then dying by crashing into the Tetris block which ends the game there.

Overall Idea:

My stop motion will be an abstract stop motion animation whilst something interferes and ruins the game near the end. This will be done by using another game called Pac Man to come in and destroy the game "Sort of". All this will be done by using coloured cut out squares with blue tac behind them so that they're stable. There will also be a score on the top left by giving the extra detail with also what type of coloured Tetris block will appear next on the top right hand side. This is so that it looks more of a Tetris game. Throughout the game Pac Man will appear outside of the boundary of Tetris and will come into the game and crash right through the wall which will hit the moving Tetris block allowing it to change to the new Tetris block. After that when the new Tetris block comes down, Pac Man crashes into the new block and dies resulting the whole game to end by saying "GG".

The editing process will be done by screen recoding the finished shots on the app that I used to get those shots. After I have it all sent to my pc I'll be editing them in Premier Pro which will allow me to include sound effects and the music. The sound effects will be implemented when the Tetris blocks move, rotate, land and destroy the row. The score will also have a sound effect every time the "Player" destroys a line or two making the score change numbers. The music will be added throughout the edit un till Pac Man dies making everything quiet except for its death. Pac Man will have his classic "waka waka" sound effect with its classic death sound.

What went well:

Throughout my practise this turned out pretty smoothly but this will however, improve massively when I create the proper one. I'll be using coloured paper rather than putting a coloured dot onto the paper for my actual edit. This was just an example of how things could look like and to give me an idea of how I can do an improved version of it. I have also used sound effects as well as background music in order to liven up the video.

Was there any issues:

The only issue I had when doing the stop motion was by the background constantly moving out of place so what I did to resolve this issue was by adding blue tac on each corner of the white paper in order for it to not move.

Post production:

During my editing, I have included a lot of the same sounds specifically the blocks moving as that is what this game is mainly about as the only thing that moves are the blocks. Not only just the blocks making the sounds but the score, when the blocks break and also Pac Man coming into the scene making its "Waka waka" sound effect. In addition to his death sound.

I have also adjusted the contrast and brightness of the video to make it not look as dull.

No adjustments done:

What went well:

Overall the planning worked out perfectly which resulted in something like this. It also looks more intimidating when watching it rather than without the sound effects which is good. Overall please with the outcome.

Was there any issues:

The only issues I would say I had is the apps focus wasn't the greatest as It only started to affect the focus half way through the shooting. Reason being is that you needed to buy to get the better HD quality but it does the job overall.

Lesson plans:

24th November 2020:

In this lesson I'll be using my photos that I've taken for my test stop motion into a stop motion video. In order for this to work I'll have to combine the pictures together to create a stop motion test video.

26th November 2020:

In this lesson I'll be finishing off the storyboard today as well as finishing my test footage stop motion video.

3rd December 2020:

In this lesson I'll be finishing off my shot list and begin with my storyboard.

8th December 2020:

In this lesson I'm hoping to finish off the research section and move on to storyboard.

10th December 2020:

Complete the animation to edit tomorrow.

11th December 2020:

Finishing off research/ storyboard and any other things that are needed to finish.
